"Immunology Montreal", is a collaborative venture between three Universities, namely McGill University , University of Montreal and INRS Institut Armand-Frappier (a research institute that is part of University of Quebec ).
Our primary objective is to help educate students at all levels (with the focus on High School through University) as well as the general population about Immunology while at the same time forging ties between the educational institutions in the greater Montreal area.
Briefly "Immunology" is our ability to defend ourselves against infection. When the immune system works well, we are healthy. However when it does not work well, diseases such as allergy, asthma, diabetes, arthritis, multiple sclerosis and even some kinds of cancer can occur. Of course one of the best examples of what happens when an infection gets the upper hand is the case with HIV/AIDS. With a better understanding of the Immune system, physicians and scientists have figured out how to use it to our advantage, such as what has occurred with the development and use of vaccination for many common, formerly devastating, infectious diseases. There is however still much to learn.
We hold a series of seminars and symposia, open to all, which will bring experts to Montreal to discuss the latest developments in many different areas of Immunology. As well, we engage high school and CEGEP students and university students (undergraduate, graduate) in a number of “outreach activities”.
We welcome your comments and suggestions. If you have a question about anything in immunology we will find an expert to answer your question. Please contact us to be placed on our mailing list to receive our periodic E-newsletter.
We look forward to your joining us at one of our upcoming events.
